Do I have to have floral experience to join SAFD?

No. Our member’s experience ranges from the beginner level to shop owners. The best part about SAFD is that the beginners learn from our most experienced members, our guest speakers and hands on workshops. This is a great opportunity to get started with floral design.

When do you meet?

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month at the Cypress Creek Community Center located at 6823 Cypresswood Dr. in the Forum.  Just look for the yellow signs directing you to our meeting site. We have social time with snacks at 6:30 p.m. with our meeting starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. Our meetings usually end at approximately 9 p.m.  Occasionally we will have special meetings offsite.  Our meetings are September to May.

Does it cost to join SAFD?

Yes. To help defray the cost of our speakers, meeting room costs, charity events, scholarships etc., we have membership dues of $45.00 for members under the age of 65. For our members over 65, there is a discounted rate of $30.00. You are welcome to attend your first meeting for free.  Click here for membership information.

What is the purpose of SAFD?

We are group of individuals who share the love of floral design.  Our motto is “to learn, to teach and to give it away”.  We have monthly meetings with local floral designers as our guest speaker. They will show us new and fun floral design techniques. Additionally, we offer hands on workshops and monthly community affairs events where you get to help create arrangements for local nursing homes and hospice centers. This is our chance to give it away and learn at the same time! We also offer our help to local charities who are in need of floral arrangements for the charity events. SAFD also sponsors a number of scholarships to help students and individuals who want to start a new career in floral design.

Does SAFD have fundraisers?

Yes.  We have a tabletop gala in April of every year.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our members and local florists to showcase their talents. They will each have a table to decorate any way they wish as long as it incorporates flowers in the design.  We have had some very creative displays in the past from designer shoes to pandas in bamboo.  The sky is the limit when it comes to our creativity. Be sure to check out our events section of the website and click on tabletop to see previous events. The tabletop gala is a dinner and silent auction. In addition to this event, we sell raffle tickets at every meeting for the chance to win the floral designs displayed during our meeting.

Does SAFD have a newsletter?

Yes. We have a monthly newsletter that is located on our website. Click on the newsletter section of the website to see the current issue as well as an archive of previous newsletters. Please take some time to view these issues. There is a wealth of information to be found in the previous publications.
